This depends on how your child was referred to us.

If you contact us and make an appointment yourself, there will be no record. It stays confidential.

If your child is cited to our department, then his/her name will be entered into the police main system.

When your child is 18 years of age, you can request to seal their juvenile record through the Fresno County Probation Department.

If your child understands that there are consequences for bad choices and continues to make these choices anyway, they are old enough to participate in our program.

For reference, we have had children as young as 5 years old participate in our Diversion Program.

Defiance comes in many different forms and should be addressed at the first occurrence. Every child is different, so the best methods to address the defiance can vary.

Ask yourself:

• Does your child clearly understand that he/she makes the choice to be defiant?
• Does your child understand there will be consequences?
• As a parent, do you follow through with these consequences?
• Are these consequences age appropriate?

We are not a drug testing facility, but we do drug test for parents or guardians that participate in our Diversion Program.

We do so to empower them to address drug issues with their juveniles and bring to light what the juvenile is denying to their parents or guardians.

There are many reasons why children run away.

The first step is to talk to your child, though we understand that not all juveniles will open up and talk to you. The second step is to give a clear consequence for leaving without permission and following it through.
